Canyonlands UKC Conformation 6/26 Show 1

These two did great work today! It was Jürgen's first time in the ring and Koda is barely six months old!

We definitely need to practice this more-- you can tell our focus is on obedience right now. :) The dog group that meets in Mt Pleasant hasn't met for a month. It must be summer. The one time we made it it was GREAT experience. I wish it happened more!

I seriously loved this judge. She did great with ALL the juniors. She asked questions- (we thought only the ASCA judges did that!) - Jürgen said he got all of them right except for when she asked him what the canines are used for. The correct answer was 'holding things' and Jürgen said for eating meat (also what I thought 😆).

Pooped. ☺️

More to come, tomorrow! We brought the boards to practice for our EXAM tomorrow, too! :)

Week 3 is uploaded

Jurgen,

I have just returned from CA.  Here is the Week 3 material - there is A LOT of new material.

This IS a critical week as there are two EXAMS and when the dog can successfully complete the Week 3 EXAM # 2, they will have begun internalizing the learning and taking responsibility for their choices and positions. This is NOT THE WEEK to 'take things easy' as the more rapidly we pile on this new material, the faster the learning dog assimilates it internally.

I am soooooo delighted to be home again. It has been a really emotional weekend.

For Jürgen: Kat/Niko Week 2 Exam Throwback

Proof that you don't need to be perfect. ☺️ Also, do you recognize that boy on the left side of the frame?

Jürgen/Koda FC Week 2b Practice 6/17/26

It has been a week. This was a practice session we had together Wednesday before Jürgen went to band and I went to work. Jürgen has 7 am runs on Tuesday and Thursday and then goes straight to band. When I am not working I can hopefully spend time with the pup. When I am working Jürgen has to work him later in the day.

Hopefully we will have an exam to post tonight. I am home with a Dox that's not feeling great and everyone else is at a BBQ with the community jazz group Graydon and I are in. Hopefully we can get a successful exam in after they come home. :)

Jürgen looked pretty burned out in these videos. Koda was giving us some push-back for sure. The next night when Jürgen worked him things looked much better. Progress! Jürgen is working hard.

Travel safely, Roxanne. ❤️ I hope today was one of healing... at least a tiny amount.

Juergen/Koda Practice So Far

We have recorded some videos and I have not been very good at sharing them!

These first two are some of our first practice sessions from Monday afternoon/evening. We only worked on the right turn footwork. I have little plastic foot prints I put down for him to practice with at first. Then we picked them up and let him practice without them.

Juergen has been practicing with Fido first and then working Koda.

Juergen has been really good about getting me involved when I am home. He has also been really good about working Koda even without me there. He has been working so hard. I am very proud of him!

This morning he even wanted to work the LT without me having to review it with him! Smart kid! And with a smart dog-- the perfect team!

These include all the old favorites, like dig the rock/stick/whatever out of the dog's mouth, the dreaded balloon disease, and Kat arguing with herself over the proper halt mechanics. Fun! 😂

Week 1 LL Practice 6/1

I, Kat, learned important lessons this evening.

First lesson: Dog toys make great training distractions. Kids make great training distractions.

Dog toys + Kids =

You will want to wear ear plugs for the next ten days if you watched the previous video. At least, I do.

The chaos was not only too much for Koda, looking back, the chaos was too much for Jürgen. So many things that had seemed rote for him this morning fell off with the circus that ensued when his mother tried to enlist the help of a group of Youtube-crazed mini-people and armed them with squeaky toys.

Second lesson: I'm used to watching if the dog is tired. (Koda was having the time of his life.) I was not paying attention to when my son's eyes glazed over. Rewatching, I believe it was about halfway through this video:

Poor kid.

Still, he was a real trooper. You get to watch him collapse at the end when I tell him I want to try one more thing before cooldown. And I think he was too tired to even be aware of his form. 😢

Mom pushed a little further and we tried some practice tests. We will keep practicing. ☺️

We pulled into the driveway and both let out a huge sigh at the same time.

I have had multiple phrases running through my head but I'm trying to keep what I say out loud to "crap fest."

We'll have to try again tomorrow.

Maybe we can get Jürgen to comment his thoughts below.

PS! We bought a used desktop so he will be able to access the blog when I take my laptop to work! Yay!
